It Could Be Work
In addition to the great wine I get to taste, one of the benefits of being a wine consultant is traveling to some of the most beautiful and interesting places in the world. I returned to Austria and Germany last fall. I went because I love the city of Vienna as well as the wines of Austria and I wanted my wife to see those wonderful places and taste the wines. We also went back to visit our friends that own Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt, Gerhard and Annegret. While we were in the Mosel Valley we were fortunate to attend the German wine auctions in Bernkastel and Trier. As I have written before, the 2001 vintage is outstanding in Germany and the wines we tasted at auction truly bore that out. I will write about the auctions in an upcoming newsletter.
We were lucky to obtain a limited amount of a few marvelous, very affordable auction Rieslings that are available only through Guy du Vin. We bid on some of the less expensive offerings that represented GREAT values and just plain tasted good. They arrived last month and we are going to release them soon. This will be a terrific opportunity for you to purchase outstanding Riesling from a great vintage and know that no one else can get it. Talk about exclusive. Quantities are limited. Watch for them in the Guy du Vin newsletter soon!
Also, if you happen to be traveling down to Monterey California the first week of April, it is your chance to meet the rather reclusive, somewhat mysterious and always mildly entertaining owner of Guy du Vin in person. I will be sitting on two panels this year at the Monterey Wine Festival. The Festival is always fun and if I manage to control myself, it will continue to be a great wine festival this year too!
If you are interested and want more information just go to http://www.montereywine.com/. The two panels that I'm on are:
Friday, April 4 - The Next Great Values. There are thousands of wines available but only a handful are written about. Find out about the newest values before they hit the presses.
Saturday, April 5 - Champagne's Problem. Does Champagne's image as a wine for celebrations prevent it from being enjoyed with food?
