If there is a single wine that you should buy, it is this one. I wait for values like this to appear but they do so infrequently, especially now. That is why you need to try this wine and why you need to spend the extra dollars and buy three or more bottle. I don't know how long it will last. Don't wait until the masses discover this wine after it's written up in the Wine Spectator or the New York Times. By then, it will be gone. Order now and gloat.

This Pinot d'Alsace, for such an inexpensive example of a Zind-Humbrecht wine, has everything: racy acidity, full fruit, lovely structure - and it just plain tastes so good. You will go back to your glass again and again and wonder why you ever even think about drinking anything else. This is the classic blend of Auxerrois, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc harvested from the Herrenweg, Clos Windsbuhl, and Rotenberg vineyards. It is a perfectly dry wine and it has a silky smooth palate and long finish. It is fully accessible now, but with its nicely integrated acidity, it will live a long, full life.

Olivier Humbrecht is one of the stars of the wine world. In fact, he is probably the best winemaker in Alsace. He is one of the champions of biodynamics. The Humbrecht family have been winegrowers since 1620 and the Domaine Zind Humbrecht was founded in 1959. It has 40 hectares of vines, spread throughout a range of Grand Cru and single-vineyard sites. The success of Zind-Humbrecht wines lies in the attention they pay to the vineyards. Olivier never lets winemaking override the character of the vineyard. He is a fanatic about restricting yields.

Once again, this is a perfect example of a Guy du Vin Selection. It is an incredibly inexpensive example of just how delicious and moving a wine can be.
